Goal-setting is the process of taking active steps to achieve your desired outcome. Maybe your dream is to become a teacher, musician or physical therapist. Each one of these dreams involves setting and reaching small (and big!) goals. Each of these major goals can be broken down into smaller, more attainable goals that will propel you towards success.
WHAT IS GOAL?
A goal is an idea of the future or desired result that a person or a group of people envision, plan and commit to achieve.
Setting goals helps trigger new behaviors, helps guides your focus and helps you sustain that momentum in life.Goals also help align your focus and promote a sense of self-mastery. In the end, you can’t manage what you don’t measure and you can’t improve upon something that you don’t properly manage. Setting goals can help you do all of that and more.
WHAT IS SMART?
The SMART in SMART goals stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. Defining these parameters as they pertain to your goal helps ensure that your objectives are attainable within a certain time frame.
SPECIFIC
Set goals with enough details to knw what success look like.
MEASURABLE
Set goals with quantifiable success items.
To be both useful and motivating, the goals you set must have some important characteristics:
1. Goals should be self-chosen
2. Goals should be moderately challenging
3. Goals should be realistic
4. Goals should be measurable
5. Goals should be specific
6. Goals should be finite
7. Goals should be positive
Think of a goal as your final destination, if you don’t know what your final destination is, there is no way to plan on how to get there.
No planning = Failing
Does a person have to achieve their goals in order to be successful?
The answer is NO.
Set goals, make sure they are in writing and readily visible and work toward your goals on a regular basis.
Three steps to success:
- Set the Goals
- Make a Commitment
- Be Accountable
EXAMPLE:
A learning management system (LMS) is a software application or web-based technology used to plan, implement and assess a specific learning process. It is used for eLearning practices and, in its most common form, consists of two elements: a server that performs the base functionality and a user interface that is operated by instructors, students and administrators.
